The Client Dollar Rent A Car has more than 647 worldwide locations in 53 countries, including 358 in the United States and Canada. The DOLLAR car rental network is comprised of both corporate-owned and operated locations and Dollar Rent A Car Licensee operations. The Challenges The DTAG Web Marketing group had just put the final touches on the specifications of a new design for dollar.com and was ready to begin the implementation. Roundedcube was brought on board to determine the architecture and content model of Sitecore 5.3 CMS and to help guide the development team which consisted of both DTAG and EDS personnel. The resulting architecture had to be highly structured to accommodate the mass and diverse content of the website while also being streamlined for optimal processor performance. The Solutions Through an on-site discovery process we gathered the necessary requirements and documented the specifications and guidelines for the development team to implement Sitecore. Our certified Sitecore developers also supported the DTAG/EDS development team throughout the project as needed and assisted with the more advanced tasks and performance optimization. Also, to make finding content easier in Sitecore, we designed and implemented a custom XAML Sitecore application to give authors a spreadsheet-like view of specific content. The Results Dollar Rent A Car successfully implemented the new design on Sitecore 5.3 and migrated all of the content over. The new CMS allows content authors to update specials and other frequently changing content. In addition, the multi-site capability of Sitecore gives DTAG a single platform for all of their websites including Thrifty.com and the country-specific versions of each website.
